In order to reduce time and cost, the general contractor (Turner Construction) for this Hilton Garden Inn, retained Kerkstra / Spancrete Great Lakes (Jenison, MI) to fabricate precast wall panels and floor plank for the project. 8" CMU bearing walls were originally specified on the construction documents. The use of 8" precast wall panels saved the project valuable construction time with no cost impact.

We at Reigstad & Associates, having extensive experience in both precast concrete and high-rise design, were able to provide Kerkstra with economical and practical solutions for ease of fabrication and erection.

Reigstad & Associates received notice to proceed on 1-20-03 and were able to complete erection drawings by 2-10-03. That’s erection drawings done in 3 weeks for a 10-story hotel. Shop tickets were then completed for fabrication on 3-3-03.

Precast solution included approximately 110,000 square feet of floor and roof plank and 327 wall panels.

Elevator cores were fabricated as complete "boxes". Kerkstra’s expertise in "box" fabrication allowed for the quick installation of these core sections. Place cursor over image to view the precast "box" outline. The use of corrugated grout tubes with grout ports provided an assembly method that results in a quick but dependable connection between "box" and wall panel pieces.

Kerkstra / Spancrete Great Lakes is very pleased with the attention to detail and follow through on numerous issues by Reigstad.

"Reigstad & Associates did an outstanding job on a very difficult 10 story building. They overcame numerous obstacles converting a masonry structure to precast; requiring they work closely with the architect, contractor, ourselves and the erector to coordinate and follow through on all aspects of a precast project. All this was accomplished from our initial kickoff meeting to start of production in ten weeks. Our hats off to the staff of Reigstad & Associates."  - Greg Kerkstra, President Kerkstra / Spancrete Great Lakes.
